ACL Reconstruction Rehabilitation in Noida
Structured ACL rehabilitation in Noida — phased protocols coordinated with your orthopaedic surgeon, objective return-to-sport testing, and a clear path back to your sport.
ACL reconstruction rehab is a 9–12 month journey, not a 6-week one. Done right, you return to your sport stronger and at lower re-injury risk than you started. Done poorly, you re-tear inside two years — the published rates are sobering. We follow modern, criteria-based ACL rehab protocols (Adams 2012; Grindem 2016; van Melick 2016) adapted to your sport.
Our ACL rehab phases
Phase 1 — Protection & restoration (week 0 – 6)
- Pain & swelling control, gentle quadriceps activation, full passive knee extension by week 2.
- Crutches and brace per surgeon’s protocol; gradual return to full weight-bearing.
- Hip and core work that doesn’t load the graft.
Phase 2 — Strength & controlled loading (week 6 – 16)
- Bilateral and then single-leg strength training: leg press, split squats, hip thrusts, calf raises.
- Stationary bike → elliptical → underwater treadmill (where available) → land jogging.
- Neuromuscular control work — single-leg balance, step-downs, lateral control.
Phase 3 — Power, plyometrics, sport-specific (month 4 – 7)
- Bilateral then single-leg jumps and landings; deceleration drills.
- Linear running progressing to change of direction; sport-specific footwork.
- Strength & conditioning that mirrors your sport’s demands.
Phase 4 — Return to sport (month 7 – 12)
- Objective return-to-sport battery: quad & hamstring strength symmetry ≥ 90%, single-leg hop tests within 10%, sport-specific agility, psychological readiness (ACL-RSI).
- Graded return: training drills → contact training → match minutes → full match.
Why criteria-based rehab matters
Returning to cutting/pivoting sport before 9 months and without meeting strength & hop criteria multiplies your re-tear risk. We do not clear athletes on calendar alone — the data has to support it. This is the same approach used in elite sport, applied to recreational athletes in Noida.
Coordinated with your surgeon
We coordinate progression with your orthopaedic surgeon’s protocol — graft type (hamstring, BPTB, quadriceps), meniscal repair status, and any associated cartilage work all influence the timeline. Share your surgeon’s notes at your first visit; we will build the plan around them.

Frequently asked questions
When should I start ACL rehab after surgery?
Most patients begin formal physiotherapy within the first week after surgery. Achieving full knee extension, gentle quadriceps activation, and good swelling control in those first weeks shapes the entire 12-month recovery — earlier really is better.
How soon can I run after ACL reconstruction?
Most patients start a gradual return to running between months 3 and 4, but only when strength and single-leg control criteria are met. We do not clear running on the calendar alone.
When can I return to football, cricket, or basketball after ACL surgery?
For cutting and pivoting sports, plan for at least 9 to 12 months, gated by objective testing — quad and hamstring strength symmetry of 90% or more, single-leg hop tests within 10%, and sport-specific drills passed. Returning earlier sharply raises re-injury risk; published evidence is unambiguous on this.
Do I need a knee brace long term?
No. A brace is typically used only for the first 4 to 6 weeks per your surgeon's protocol. Long-term bracing is not routinely recommended for recreational sport once rehab is complete.
What if I had ACL surgery in another city?
That is very common — we routinely continue rehab for patients operated in Delhi, Gurgaon, or elsewhere. Please bring your operative notes and the rehab protocol prescribed by your surgeon to your first visit.
