Kinesio taping (KT) is one tool among many — useful for short-term pain modulation, swelling management, and event-day support. It is not magic, and on its own it does not heal injuries. Applied correctly, by a clinician who understands the tissue underneath, it can let you train and compete when you otherwise could not.
When kinesio taping helps
- Acute soft-tissue injuries: reducing pain and swelling in the first few days after a strain or sprain.
- Tournament support: getting an athlete through a multi-day event with a minor injury — common for cricketers, badminton players, runners.
- Patellofemoral and Achilles symptom modulation: alongside the load-management plan, not instead of it.
- Postural cues: short-term tactile feedback for shoulder posture or scapular control.
When KT is not the answer
Chronic instability, structural ligament tears, fractures, and conditions needing strength work — tape will not fix any of these. We will say plainly when it isn’t indicated.
Applied by certified clinicians
Tape applied poorly does nothing or irritates the skin. Dr. Suraj Kashyap (PT) is trained in kinesio and rigid taping techniques used at national-level sport.
